About HowWasThat

HowWasThat is an experience marketplace for India. Businesses reach real customers who try their product or service and share honest feedback. Those customers earn a reward for taking part.

Why it exists

Small and local businesses live and die by what people say about them online, yet getting real feedback from real customers is slow and uncertain. At the same time, plenty of people are happy to share an honest opinion if their time is respected.

HowWasThat brings the two together with a clear process, human checks, and payments over UPI, which every Indian business and customer already uses.

For businesses

  • Create a campaign: choose the platform, paste your review link, set how many reviews you want and what you will pay for each.
  • Target a city or go Pan India. Reviewers only see campaigns for their own city and Pan India campaigns.
  • Pay by UPI and upload your payment screenshot. We check the payment before your campaign goes live.
  • Follow progress from your dashboard as reviewers complete the task.

For reviewers

  • Sign up, pick your city and add your UPI ID. Your city is locked after signup so you only see campaigns you can genuinely take part in.
  • Choose a campaign, try the service, and post your own review on the platform it asks for.
  • Upload a screenshot as proof and submit. We check every submission before it is paid.
  • Approved rewards land in your wallet. Withdraw to your UPI ID whenever you like.

How we run it

The reward never depends on the rating

Reviewers are paid for taking part and giving their honest view. A 1-star review earns the same as a 5-star review. Businesses cannot buy a rating.

People check the work

Payments and submissions are verified by a person before money moves in either direction.

The fee is shown up front

A platform fee is taken from each bid. Businesses see the exact total before they pay, and reviewers see what they will earn on every campaign.

One person, one review per campaign

Each reviewer can submit once per campaign, and one UPI ID belongs to one account.
